Increase Our Taqwa

All
praise and gratitude are only for Allah who has given us guidance and various
kinds of His gifts.
If
it were not for guidance from Allah SWT, surely we could not be in the path of
Islam and Iman. Likewise, if it were not for the love of God and His mercy, we
would certainly be busy with the world, not thinking about the obligation to
worship of Allah SWT and because of Allah blessings, we are still healthy so we
can do Sholatul jumuah in this room..
Our
blessings and greetings may be bestowed upon our role models, our great Prophet
Muhammad SAW, also to his friends and his beloved wives and to each of his
followers, who well followed him to the end of time.

In
this khutbah : I invite myself and all jamaah Muslim to increase our taqwa to
Allah subhanahu wataala.
Taqwa
is one of the most important and comprehensive Islamic concepts. The term is
derived from its root “waqayya” which means “to protect.” Taqwa therefore means
to protect one own self from the severe punishment of Allah by following His
guidance. Some translate Taqwa as “to fear Allah”. However, fearing Allah is
only one aspect of this comprehensive concept. Ali ibn Abi Talib, radiyallahu
anhu, defines it as: “Fearing Allah, adhering to His commandments, being
content with what He provides one with, and getting ready for the Day of
Judgement.”
Allahu
Ahad is the Creator of this world and He is The Most Merciful for all His
mankind, it is repeatedly mentioned in Quran. The obeying of the great Lord is
not confined to only fulfilling religious actions, but being moral in every
aspect of life, as observed in the following verse of the Holy Quran:
O ye
who believe! When ye hold secret counsel, do it not for iniquity and hostility,
and disobedience to the Prophet; but do it for Al-Birr (righteousness) and
Taqwa (virtues and piety); and fear Allah, to Whom ye shall be be gathered. (Quran,
Mujadilah 58:9)
From this verse it indicates that Taqwa means a lot more than
just piousness: it is the combination of our beliefs, self-awareness, and
attitudes. In Holy Quran and Sunnah Taqwa is define as the concept of
protecting oneself from the Hellfire by following the orders of Allah Almighty,
by doing what Allah Subhanahu wataala has commanded and by avoiding what Allah
Subhanahu wataala has forbidden.
How to Gain Taqwa? To improve taqwa
1.
Make
a sincere intention to improve your taqwa. By Istighfar (seeking forgiveness by
supplication)
And do Taubah (repentance) for all of our mistakes
2.
Ask
Allah to increase your tawqa. It is authentically reported that the Prophet
(peace be upon him) used to supplicate:
"Allahum Inni asalukal huda wa ttuqa wal 'afaaf wal
ghinaa."
"Oh Allah, I ask You for guidance, piety, virtue and
sufficiency."
3.
To increase your worship. Allah says,
"Worship Allah...you will obtain taqwa."
-
Perform
Fard Salah On Time : Make the intention to set aside a few
moments each day around Fajr, Dhuhr, Asr, Maghrib, and Isha. When we structure
our lives around prayer, we find prayer always fits into our busy lives.
-
Reconnect
With the Quran : Make the Book of Allah an essential
lifeline, your trusted companion and spiritual guide. Schedule time for its
recitation and honor the commitment you’ve made. For those unable to read in
Arabic, select a translation and listen to a favorite reciter.
-
Make
Dhikr : A simple one is: Subhan Allah (How Perfect is Allah!) [33 times];
Alhamdulillah (All praise and thanks are for Allah) [33 times]; Allahu Akbar
(Allah is the Greatest) [34 times].This can be said after salah or at any time
during the day.
-
4.
Observe
the sunnah whenever possible. The Prophet said, "I am the most God fearing
person." Thus, following him is a guarantee, if one's intention is right,
that one is on the ways of taqwa. Imam Malik said, "The Sunnah is like the
Ark of Noah . Whoever got on board was safe. Who didn't, drowned."
A true muttaqoon is a person who strives to possess a solid
understanding and knowledge of the rulings of Allah Subhanahu wataala through
the Qur’an and Sunnah. Without proper knowledge of the Islamic rulings, a
person would not know what is asked of him/her. Therefore, it is a must to
understand Islam properly as well as to have the proper intention of pleasing
Allah (subhanahu wataala) in carrying out these actions.
Finally, I want to advise myself and the Muslims to re-learn the
Koran and the Sunnah and gain our taqwa. So we become a good Muslim and
muttaqin ... because Islam teaches us all aspects of life ... And perhaps Allah
will accept us and upon his blessings put us in heaven ... Amin ya rabbal
alamin.

Imam Ahmad mentions a hadith, narrated by a Sahabi, whereby a
person once asked, “Oh Messenger of Allah, give me some advice.” The Prophet
(shallallahu walaihi wasallam) responded, “I advise you to fear Allah
(subhanahu wataala) because it is the head of everything.” In another occasion
the Prophet (shallalahu alaihi wasallam) replied, “Fear Allah (subhanahu
wataala) because it is the collection of all goodness.” Allah (subhanahu
wataala)also promises to be with those who have taqwa. Allah (subhanahu
wataala) says,
“Truly, Allah is with those who fear Him, keep their duty unto
Him, and those who are muhsinun (doers of good for Allah’s sake only).” [TMQ
An-Nahl 16:128]
Also taqwa constitutes a reason, that Allah (subhanahu wataala)
has provided, in order to help one who is experiencing hardship and distress.
Allah (subhanahu wataala) promises,
“Whoever fears Allah, Allah will grant him a way out of
hardship.” [TMQ At-Talaq 65:2]
Allah (subhanahu wataala) had also promised forgiveness of sins
to those people who are muttaqoon.
“And whoever fears Allah, and keeps his duty to Him, He will
forgive his sins from him and will enlarge his reward.” [TMQ At-Talaq 65:5]
Allah (subhanahu wataala) has given the glad tidings for those
who have taqwa. The news of paradise is assured to such people, giving hints at
the vast rewards to those who take Allah subhanahu wataala as their Lord in
their actions.
